The Parish Nurse Program is a covenant of Church Hill First United Methodist Church and the Wellmont Health System. Parish Nursing is based on the concept of holistic health care – being well in mind, body and spirit.
A parish nurse is a Registered Nurse who assists members of the congregation with their health and well-being. Understanding the healing mission of the church, she assists members of the congregation to reach their optimal level of health and well-being. This holistic wellness approach may be via visitation, assisting in indentifying health needs through interviews, surveys, counseling on health related issues, being a resource for obtaining needed services, coordinating health screenings and developing support groups within the church.
Our Parish Nurse is Carol Gilreath, who serves as part of our church staff. She became our Parish Nurse in March of 2004. She is a graduate of Fort Sanders Presbyterian Hospital School of Nursing, Knoxville, TN and began her nursing career at Holston Valley Community Hospital in Kingsport, TN.
