At the church on the hill we observe the season of Lent. Lent is a season of forty days, not counting Sundays, beginning on Ash Wednesday and ending on Holy Saturday, the day before Easter Sunday. This season is a time for repentance (meaning turning our lives to God) in preparation for the celebration of JESUS’ resurrection from the dead during Easter. We encourage members to not only think about giving up something to make this season more meaningful but to also consider focusing more attention on our relationship with God through worship, study, prayer, fasting, giving, service and other faith practices.
To kick off our Lenten Season, we will be having an Ash Wednesday Service on February 10 at 6 p.m. Please join us for this powerful service that reminds us that we only have ONE LIFE TO LIVE and need to respond to Christ’s call to repent, to turn our lives to Him to follow Him in the way of life that He has revealed, a way of life that leads to abundant and eternal life.
During the Lenten Season, my messages during Sunday morning worship (11 a.m. weekly) will be focused on the theme of Covenant as we will be looking at major biblical covenants between God and people beginning with major Covenants in the Old Testament leading up to the new covenant in Jesus. We will also be celebrating Holy Communion every Sunday during the season of Lent in connection with this theme of Covenant and related to our emphasis of turning to God and giving more attention to our relationship with God.
We will have a special Sunday School class during Lent focused on Jesus’ final words from the cross. All of our adult classes will participate, and we will begin gathering for Sunday School in the sanctuary at 9:45 a.m. each Sunday of Lent beginning February 14.
JOIN US FOR THESE SPECIAL ACTIVITIES DURING THIS SEASON TO TURN YOUR LIFE WHERE IT’S MEANT TO BE, TO GOD AND TO FOLLOWING JESUS CHRIST!
